My Lord,

REED RESEP 201
GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 13th July, 1920.

With reference to Your Lordship's circular despatch of the 21st April, 1920, I have the honour to inform you that I laid before my Executive Council the additional information enclosed concerning the working of the Imperial Mineral Resources Bureau and they have advised that, in view of this Colony's very restricted area and of the meagre results which have so far been obtained by prospectors, this Colony would not be justified in contributi
ing the sum of £200 to the funds of the Bureau.
I would refer Your Lordship, however, to
384) my despatch No.227 of the 13th July, 1920, in which enquiry
is made concerning a proposed geological survey of the
Colony. In the event of this survey being made and of the
discovery of mineral resources to a moderate extent I pro-
pose to re-consider the question of contributing towards the
upkeep of the Imperial Mineral Resources Bureau,
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient,
humble servent,
2. Statts
Governor,&c.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
&C..
VISCOUNT MILNER, G.C.B..
